Chronic illness is no fun. If you're here, you already know that.

Iā€™m Julia, and I've been living with chronic illness for more than a decade. My doctors are fantastic, my husband is beyond supportive, my friends are helpful and delightful, and it is still a struggle to get through every single day. This site is here to share the rants, resources, reviews, and ruminations I've created in my time as an angry invalid.

Crystal Pascucci and the Music of MRIs

Crystal Pascucci and the Music of MRIs

I attended a concert recently that featured "resonance imaging", a piece by performer, improviser, and composer Crystal Pascucci, who is living with lupus. The work was inspired by her experience of having had many MRI scans, and it transformed the kind of discordant sounds the subject hears into a shimmering, compelling music.

You can hear "resonance imaging" here, as beautifully performed by the duo Transient Canvas. Pascucci's other projects and performances are equally fascinating; find out more at her website.
